WHY I’M BUILDING THIS

Every time someone asks me what I’d do if money weren’t a consideration, my answer has always been the same.

A bookstore.

Not because I love books. Though I do.

Because I believe stories have the power to put you inside a life that isn’t yours. To help you feel what someone else feels. To remind you that the person sitting across from you on BART, the one with a different background, a different history, or a different language, is carrying many of the same hopes, fears, and dreams that you are.

We are more divided than I can ever remember. By politics. By class. By the stories we’re told about one another.

New Horizons Books is my answer to that.

A place where differences aren’t something to fear. They’re doorways.

I want to create a space where people can safely step through those doorways. Where curiosity is welcome. Where every shelf invites you to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Where the books quietly remind us that our own experience isn’t the only one.

And that’s not a threat.

It’s an invitation.

This bookstore won’t solve everything. But I believe change often begins with something as simple as picking up a book you never expected to read.

That’s the bookstore I’m trying to build.
